We’ve already shared the latest NBA Rumors suggesting that the Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to trade Russell this off-season as per NBA Insider Marc Stein. One such team expected to be aggressively pursuing a trade for Russell is the New York Knicks.

Is it realistic to expect the Minnesota Timberwolves to field any inquiries into trading for D’Angelo Russell? While Russell has been a solid contributor, he is not earning his keep as one of the top two players on the Timberwolves roster in terms of how much he is getting paid.
Russell is playing off the last year of the contract he signed with the Brooklyn Nets after his All-Star season. Over the past four seasons, his production has dropped, while his compensation continues to go up. That happens, but the Timberwolves are at a fork in the road. If new president Tim Connelly is not sold on D’Angelo Russell filling a necessary role at point guard for the team, it could make sense to part ways via trade now.
