For the first time in Minnesota Timberwolves history, an active player is starring in a motion picture. Complements of LeBron James, Adam Sandler, and Maverick Carter. Who are they? Well, they simply are the producers of the made-for-Netflix special movie: Hustle.

Which debuts on Netflix on JUNE 8th 2022. What is it about?  Well, check out this trailer link here.

This is not the first time that a Minnesota Timberwolves player has starred in a movie. Former Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett played himself in a notable role in 2019’s motion picture “Uncut Gems.” Adam Sandler also starred in that movie.

Sandler and Garnett had a great deal of fun together.

Do the Hustle

Hustle is about a basketball scout named Stanley Sugarman who is very much down on his luck and looking for that one big player. He discovers Cruz, an international player who has elite skills but a questionable past. When a basketball scout discovers him playing across seas, he brings the phenom back without his team’s approval. Guard Anthony Edwards stars as a character named Kermit Wilts. Wilts is the adversary, an elite draft prospect who intimidates Cruz, with his skills on the court and his offensive, trash-talking ways.

Juancho Hernangómez plays Cruz, who played two seasons for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2019 through 2021.

Talk about making a splash in the movie industry. Anthony Edwards’s performance will definitely catch viewers by surprise. The NBA star became a scene-stealer, bringing realism and swagger to the set. Edwards embraced the anti-hero role naturally and beat out a couple of other NBA stars whose names were mentioned for the role.

“HUSTLE” director Jeremiah Zagar stated Adam Sandler suggested Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards and that Edwards just seemed like a perfect fit.

This may be Edwards’s first film appearance but he has performed in multiple commercials, building himself quite the resume. Edwards and Hernangomez played together during his rookie season. So the chemistry that they developed was already there.

Although staring in a movie and a commercial are quite different. Edwards worked with Zagars acting coach Noelle Gentile to improve his acting to prepare for this role.

Edwards amazed Zagar with how quickly he caught on. And per the director’s opinion, Edwards nailed the role perfectly:

"“If Kermit is just a villain he’s uninteresting, but if he’s an anti-hero, which is how I see him if he’s more like Michael Jordan than some kind of two-dimensional character, he’s more exciting. That’s what Anthony brought. That realism and swagger. If we were to make a ‘HUSTLE 2’ it would be about him” – director Jeremiah Zagar talking about Timberwolves Anthony Edwards as per Insider.com Jason Gerrasio"

That is some high praise for someone making their first motion picture debut.

Initial reactions to the movie have been positive so far. If you catch it, let us know what you think about it in the comments section. Thanks!
