A universal question posed whenever any organization hires a new boss is: ‘What’s the new guy like?’. After all, curiosity about the guy who is calling the shots is a natural response to anyone who faces the arrival of someone who is unfamiliar.

But in the case of the Minnesota Timberwolves, perhaps the better question to ask is what does the new guy like? Since the new guy is Minnesota Timberwolves president Tim Connelly, the answer could be vital to the direction the team takes this offseason.

While we continue to try to solve that puzzler, Connelly helped us out with commentary on his views of the Timberwolves’ rapidly rising young star Anthony Edwards.  What did Connelly have to say?

While that may seem like little more than a casual compliment, it says quite a bit about the player and the perspective.

Connelly knows NBA talent

Connelly has a pretty good nose for NBA talent and the presence of Anthony Edwards on the Timberwolves roster certainly played a role in Connelly accepting the offer to take over as the Timberwolves president. Now, he must find ways to enhance Edwards’s performance on the court. While some believe that PG D’Angelo Russell is not the best backcourt fit with Edwards, that is not the initial rhetoric from Connelly.

In fact, if you combine the statements that Connelly has now made about both Russell and Edwards, you may be led to believe that the Minnesota Timberwolves’ backcourt is set. While that has yet to be proven out with the upcoming 2022 NBA Draft, a picture is beginning to form for the future plans for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Will the Timberwolves focus on the front court?  We’ll know in two weeks.
