Timberwolves Rumors: Will team reinvest in their backcourt?

Some NBA Insiders believe that the Miami Heat are eyeing Minnesota Timberwolves backup guard Patrick Beverley.  Now, after spending one year in Minnesota, Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley apparently has his eyes set on Dade County.

On a recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, guard Patrick Beverley tossed his name in the conversation referring to the Miami Heat as the crew discussed potential trade scenarios for the upcoming offseason

As co-hosts cited potential players and NBA team fits, as soon as the Miami Heat were mentioned, Beverly interjected:

“Will they trade for Patrick Beverley?”

The 33-year-old veteran guard is entering the final year of his contract while the Minnesota Timberwolves front office has yet to make an offer for an extension. A trade of this caliber could benefit both parties. While an aging Patrick Beverley is eager to make an impact on a championship-worthy team, his on-court trash talking has been linked to letting the Memphis Grizzlies off the hook in the NBA Playoffs this year.

Timberwolves rumors: Heat trade?

The Heat made it to the Eastern Conference Finals this season but lost to the Boston Celtics in six games. A high-spirited guard like Patrick Beverley could be an upgrade at the backup point guard position. Beverley strengthened Minnesota’s thin bench and gave the young team a tougher mentality. His hustle mentality aligns well with the Heat’s gritty team culture, a bar that has been set by former Timberwolves, Jimmy Butler.

The Wolves could sell high, and try to steal the Sixth man of the year, Tyler Herro, away from Miami. Herro recently made comments that he deserves a starting role, and

Miami Pat Riley chimed in on guard Tyler Herro wanting to start.

“As far as being a starter, come to training camp and win it.”

Ideally, this could be the perfect trade for the Timberwolves. Herro has proven he can be a starter in this league and would complement wingman Anthony Edwards and center Karl-Anthony Towns. The Timberwolves could package Beverly and pick(s) to pry Herro away from the Miami Heat.

Ringer cites more Timberwolves rumors

Well, where does this leave the Timberwolves’ starting guard D’Angelo Russell? Per The Ringer’s Kevin O’Conner, the Minnesota Timberwolves are currently rumored to be shopping Russell. Of course, Russell is an ideal trade chip, as he is playing in the final season remaining on his current contract at $31.4 million.

According to Kevin O’Connor at RINGER.com, the Timberwolves have their 2022 NBA Draft focused on freshman guard, TyTy Washington Jr., out of the University of Kentucky.

O’Conner speculates that TyTy and Karl-Anthony Towns could become a deadly pick-and-roll duo, allowing wingman Anthony Edwards to put his full offensive shot weaponry on full display.

Washington Jr. is a versatile shot-creator with a great sense for making his teammates better. Sound like a Chris Paul in the making. Whatever Russell would generate in terms of packages to persuade the front office to trade him could only strengthen the Timberwolves roster moving forward.
