Timberwolves Rumors: Clint Capela to Minnesota? What say you?
By Bret Stuter
The Minnesota Timberwolves rumors are more plentiful than ever.
The 10 days before the NBA Draft can be a lot of fun for those with active imaginations. For others who like to adhere strictly to the news after the fact, the hints, whispers, and inuendoes that are broadcasted during this period are sheer torture. There is a rumor about practically every NBA player, whether on contract or expired contract.
And no NBA team is immune to rumors. In fact, the Minnesota Timberwolves are one of the hottest NBA teams where rumors are concerned because the organization has hired and restructured its front office in a rather aggressive fashion.
We are aware of the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ focus on adding another big to the roster. Per team president Tim Connelly, that big can either take the form of a backup center, or could possibly be a traditional starting center, and the team would shift current center Karl-Anthony Towns to the power forward spot.
Right now, per The Athletic’s Shams Charnia, Timberwolves rumors are that they are seeking a deal for Atlanta Hawks starting center Clint Capela. Does that make sense?
Well, it could. In fact, based on what we know, Capela could be an ideal fit for what the Timberwolves need on their roster.
Minnesota Timberwolves rumors: Capela could be the real deal
There is not an unlimited supply of solid rebounding centers, and Clint Capela is one of the best. That alone makes him a viable target for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Right now, the Timberwolves can and probably are contacting every NBA team to inquire what it would take to land a solid 5.
After they have contacted other teams, they can begin to narrow the search. I expect that the shortlist could, in fact, include Capela. That is unless the Atlanta Hawks demand a trade package far in excess of what he is worth.
So what is he worth to the Timberwolves?
For starters, he could give the Timberwolves a far better rotation, as he could take over at center for KAT, play a complementary role alongside Towns, or be the primary rebounder when KAT is on the bench.
That is huge by itself.
But more than that, he is a tremendously effective rebounder on both sides of the court. In fact, he is much better at banging the boards than KAT, and he does it with far fewer fouls.
Would this be a sexy move? I don’t know that many fans will get too excited over this one. But it could be the type of move that gives this team just enough defense to advance further in the NBA Playoffs.
