Timberwolves trade options

If the Timberwolves aren’t confident in the prospects available in the 2022 NBA Draft. They could package their 19th pick along with any combination of their three second-round picks, perhaps even adding in additional veteran players on their roster like guard D’Angelo Russell or Patrick Beverley. Both Russell and Beverly’s names come up quite frequently in trade rumors around the league so far this season.

Beverly definitely made the Timberwolves better but, if they could sell high and get a nice piece in return, the Wolves may be willing to let go of the veteran point guard.

The Miami Heat are one team who could be interested in trading for guard Patrick Beverley. He implied on ESPN’s talk show “First Take” that he would like to be traded to the Heat.

Beverly is entering his 15th season, after averaging nine points, four rebounds, and four assists. Meanwhile,  D’Angelo Russell’s name has been shopped around the league by the Timberwolves. The Timberwolves have not been satisfied with the pairing between Russell and veteran Karl-Anthony Towns in their second full season together.

Timberwolves rumors: Trade scenarios

Odds are Russell may find himself on the outside looking in. The Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, and New York Knicks have all shown interest in D-LO.

Here are some potential trade scenarios revolving around D’Angelo Russell:

  • Wizards get: D’Angelo Russell, two 2nd-round picks
Timberwolves get: Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
  • Clippers get: D’Angelo Russell and the 19th pick
Timberwolves get: Norman Powell, Marcus Morris
  • Knicks get: D’Angelo Russell, 19th pick
  • Timberwolves get: Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson, Alec Burks, 11th pick

Of the teams linked to D’Angelo Russell, the Knicks appear to be the team who is best positioned to make a move for him:

The Timberwolves would love nothing better than to acquire another elite talent through the NBA Draft to pair with Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. Unfortunately, that is unlikely at 19.  The team may need to package a veteran like Beverley or Russell as well as multiple picks to land Minnesota a lottery pick land such a player.
