The Minnesota Timberwolves enter the 2022 NBA Draft with four picks in their arsenal. Of course, that is no guarantee that the team will emerge with four rookies. For that matter, it’s no insurance of the Timberwolves emerging with any rookies for that matter.

The Timberwolves have done an outstanding job of exploring almost every strategy so far. But tonight is the first test for Timberwolves’ President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly. How will he navigate the team?

While the team is loaded with picks, the Minnesota Timberwolves do not possess a lottery pick in the draft. That could complicate the team’s strategy as the team will not have a pick in the Top 15. To trade up, the Timberwolves will need a willing trade partner. Does the team value any prospects in this draft worth trading up for?

What do the Timberwolves need in the 2022 NBA Draft?

The Minnesota Timberwolves need help on the frontcourt, and on defense, and would beg, borrow, or steal to add a third playmaker to this roster.

What picks will the Minnesota Timberwolves be selecting in the 2022 NBA Draft?

The Timberwolves are currently scheduled to pick at:

  1. Pick 19 TRADED FOR:
  2. Pick 22 (from Memphis) – Auburn C Walker Kessler
  3. Pick 26 (Traded pick from Memphis) – Duke SF Wendell Moore
  4. Pick 29 Traded for pick 26
  5. Pick 40 Traded to Charlotte for two future 2nds
  6. Pick 45 (pick from Charlotte) – F Josh Minott
  7. Pick 48 – Traded to Indiana for future 2nd-round pick
  8. Pick 50 – Euroleague G Matteo Spagnolo

The Timberwolves are in a very unique position where they could be very aggressive, moderately active, or dormant in the draft and rationalize a justification for doing exactly that. The team is not painted into a corner or racing to beat the clock. But each and every decision – beginning with all decisions made during the draft – will either facilitate or complicate their future.

This is Tim Connelly’s first step as team president. Let’s hope it is in the right direction.
