The Minnesota Timberwolves are lining up quite a curious roster to compete in the 2022 NBA Summer League, and things are beginning to take shape. Now up to five players added, the team appears to have a workable five-man roster to send out onto the floor. Of course, ten more players will be added, but the team has covered the basics so far.

You may recognize this player, as Leandro Bolmaro is a 6-foot-6 200-pound prospect who was acquired by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 23rd pick of the 2020 NBA Draft:

Now, what’s he been up to?

Leandro Bolmaro was the most intriguing international player selected in the 2020 NBA Draft with the 23rd overall pick, acquired from the New York Knicks for Matthias Lessort and a 2023 second-round pick. At the time, his draft profile described a young prospect who buries the needle on energy and potential.

He was touted for his vision of the court, his basketball IQ, and a great touch on passes that end up in the hands of the open shooter in time to take the shot. He signed a rookie contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2021 and played in 35 games, starting in two over the 2021-22 season. He averaged only 6.9 minutes per game but did show some promise for more playing time in 2022-23.

While he needs to get better range on his shooting, his free throw accuracy at nearly 85 percent is outstanding.

Off-season articles have cited Bolmaro as a trade chip, but I don’t think the Timberwolves will deal him before determining what they have. He didn’t get many minutes because he was buried on the team’s depth chart and, more importantly, he did nothing to warrant getting more playing time.

His campaign to earn more court-time begins in the summer league, and I believe that he will show up in a much bigger way for the Timberwolves. Not only will Bolmaro be more comfortable this year, but he’s had a taste of the NBA and will surely be looking for more.
