Minnesota Timberwolves News: Meet and greet the new rookies
By Bret Stuter
The only thing better than watching your favorite NBA team draft interesting players during the NBA Draft is that initial press conference when optimism is sky high and everyone is confident that everything will work out. After that? It’s time to work. And so it goes for the Minnesota Timberwolves and their draft class of 2022. Well, three of four rookies, at least.
For all intents and purposes, the Minnesota Timberwolves trio of Auburn C Waker Kessler, Duke wing Wendell Moore, and Memphis forward Josh Minott will be getting to work pretty quickly, as all three should be featured on the summer league team that will compete in just weeks away.
In the meantime, the Minnesota Timberwolves have scheduled an introductory press conference to meet the rookies at 10:00 am CT at the link below:
So what do we hope to learn? Well, as much as possible, hopefully. For example, both Walker Kessler and Wendell Moore’s birthdays are less than one month apart from that of Anthony Edwards. That’s a curious factoid. But here are some specific topics that interest me out of the gates:
Walker Kessler, Center
I – So much is being made about his ability to block shots, but what about the offensive side of his game? What shots is he working on right now?
II – There have been discussions about the Minnesota Timberwolves pairing a center with Karl-Anthony Towns. Has that been discussed with Walker Kessler? How does he envision that compatibility if yes?
III – How does Kessler see himself contributing to the Timberwolves rotation in his rookie season? Defensively? Offensively? Depth chart?
Wendell Moore, Shooting guard/small forward
I – Reports of Wendell Moore having played basketball with Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels have surfaced. Has Wendell Moore been contacted by either player? What are his thoughts in terms of reuniting with both?
II – There is smoldering optimism over Wendell Moore’s ability to deliver quickly on both sides of the basketball court. Is he working on improving his offense or defense right now? What specifically?
III – Is Wendell Moore more proud of his ability to defend or his ability to knock down three-pointers?
Josh Minott, Small forward/power forward
I – Some reports have suggested that Josh Minott is still growing. What are his current measured height and weight? Is that something that he believes will change in the future?
II – Based on the current Minnesota Timberwolves roster, Josh Minott appears to be ideally suited for a two-way contract. Has that been discussed?
III – Josh Minott played just one season of NCAA BB. What aspect of his game is he working on right now? Shot selection? Perimeter accuracy? Defense?
The press conference is going to be a 30,000-foot feel-good meeting, as it should be. But some juicy tidbits could slip. What do you want to know about the latest additions to the Minnesota Timberwolves roster? As for Matteo Spagnolo, their guard selected at 50? He will likely be playing an additional year in the Euroleague.
