The NBA can be quite a lucrative business for those players who excel at the sport. And the number of professional athletes who reap the benefits of flourishing in the very popular sport increases each year. If you are an NBA player who is among the best statically ranked at your position, you have a chance to land huge contracts.

I won’t send you into a coma by talking about the complexities of income taxes for professional athletes. But the fact that an NBA Player can step onto the basketball court in a multitude of states, yes you guessed it, means that that player owes some of that money to the state. Then you have federal taxes and well, you get the rest of it.

To ensure that as much of their money stays in their pocket, professional athletes hire sports agents who serve as their advocates, their advisor, their representative, and their negotiator. You may think it’s a simple process, but it’s not. It’s a full-time job of connections, relationships, being kind and compassionate at times, but being able to flip the switch almost instantly into ‘business mode’ and talk tough contract terms.

In the end, much like the popular movie ‘Jerry Maguire,’ it’s all about ‘Show me the money!’

So that is exactly what Jessica Holtz, the sports agent who represents both Phoenix Suns star shooting guard Devin Booker and Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl Anthony Towns, is doing. She is the first female player agent to secure a max contract for her client. But Holtz didn’t stop there. She landed super max contracts for two of her clients on the same day.

That is incredible. So how does one of her clients feel about her? Well, Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony is feeling pretty good about his agent right now.

Although the team has been advocating a super-max contract for Karl-Anthony Towns in the time leading up to the actual contract signing, there is always the risk of getting hung up with a particular contract clause, or something going awry to derail talks.

The Minnesota Timberwolves land their franchise player for the foreseeable future. Karl-Anthony Towns got paid and has the security of knowing he will be playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves for years to come. And what about Jessica Holtz, the sports agent who was integral in making all of this happen?

Not only did she show KAT the money, but she made history in the process.
