Twitter reacts to Minnesota Timberwolves trade for Rudy Gobert

The immediate reaction of Minnesota Timberwolves fans in the aftermath of the trade for defensive standout center Rudy Gobert is one of some varied and completely mixed emotions. After all, while there were hints and whispers about the team’s interest in Gobert, the slow and deliberate roster moves to this point seemed cautious and deliberate, like those of a person learning to walk after a knee replacement.

The Timberwolves drafted conservatively, emerging from the 2022 NBA Draft with a quartet of young players.  The Timberwolves worked the NBA Free Agency market conservatively as well. The team re-signed their own players, and then struck a deal with former Grizzlies FA power forward Kyle Anderson.

Timberwolves’ trade for Gobert erupted like a volcano

The Minnesota Timberwolves seemed content to improve slowly, cautiously.  But then, like a dormant volcano roaring to life suddenly and violently, the Minnesota Timberwolves front office struck with a fury that truly caught everyone by surprise. The Timberwolves acquired one of the best bigs in the NBA, Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert, who is the gold standard of defensive excellence.  It was a blockbuster trade that truly deserves the hyperbole.

The Timberwolves sent five players, four future first-round draft picks, and one future first-round draft pick swap to the Jazz for the French Gobert, who just so happens to have been awarded three NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards, three NBA All-Star appearances, four All-NBA selections, and six NBA first-team All-Defensive selections.
