The Minnesota Timberwolves fans loved the audacity of guard Patrick Beverley. He was the player who didn’t back down, whether on the basketball court or not.  He was the troublemaker. He was the resident Timberwolves trash-talker. He would verbally berate his opponent until he got into their head and made mistakes.

Then, he owned his opponent and would not let go.

At times it seemed as though he fought back more often and fought harder than any other player on the Timberwolves roster.  He was a lightning rod, willingly putting himself into those controversial positions to attract the lightning that would surely come, just so it would not go after his teammates.

He was as complicated as he was simple. He was pure competition. An NBA player who loved the competition, and the fans loved him for it. He is an NBA veteran of 10 years, but only one playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves. But he made sure to take care of business.

Pat Bev had endeared himself to Timberwolves fans because he promised an NBA Playoff appearance, and he certainly delivered. He delivered in his one and only season with the team.

But he was a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court, but off-court he became very . . . controversial. His dressing down of Chris Paul on ESPN was extremely controversial. Not because he took umbrage with Paul, but because he did so from the comfort of his living room television.

He is on the move once more. This time, he is slated for the Utah Jazz. That may not be the end-all, as the Jazz are interested in a rebuild now and may offer Patrick Beverley a buy-out.

As far as the Minnesota Timberwolves? The team got to the NBA Playoffs with the help of Patrick Beverly. Now the team will try to advance in those same NBA Playoffs without it.
