Unhappy with Gobert’s cost? Minnesota Timberwolves got a discount

What players the Timberwolves did not trade away
What type of trade package would you want the Timberwolves to get in a trade for Anthony Edwards? Would any package be enough? Well, that is the situation that Utah Jazz fans face today. Revisit the trade package that the Jazz ended up with. If you look at the players included, there are none who stand out as potential NBA stars.
Now let’s revisit the players not included in the trade:
- Karl Anthony Towns – center
- Anthony Edwards – shooting guard
- D’Angelo Russell – point guard
- Jaylen Nowell – shooting guard
- Kyle Anderson – power forward
- Wendell Moore – shooting guard
- Taurean Prince – power forward
- Jaden McDaniels – small forward
The Timberwolves acquired Rudy Gobert, a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, a four-time All-NBA player who is under contract to play for the next four years. They do not come cheap. In all honesty, they are not usually available by trade, no matter what the offer.
Would you believe a discounted price?
So here is something that may blow your mind. The Timberwolves paid far below the sticker price for Rudy Gobert. Just look at the players the team was able to keep?
We’ll give you plenty of reasons to like this trade in the coming weeks. But for now, you can at least rest easy knowing that your team’s front office actually emerged in this trade by talking the Jazz folks down from a far costlier trade package.
The team has its core intact. In fact, the Timberwolves starting five may be among the best starting five in the NBA. But one thing we do know is that the new Minnesota Timberwolves wanted the front office to shake things up and put the Minnesota Timberwolves on the NBA map.
Mission Accomplished.
