Timberwolves Blockbuster trade for All-Star center Rudy Gobert

Timberwolves President  Tim Connelly knocks another out of the park, just one day after the NBA’s free agency market opened. After the team had filled all open roster spots and seemed to be ready to patiently await an opportunity to make significant roster changes in 2023, the earth moved under the feet of the Twin Cities, and out crawled the Timberwolves Twin Towers:

The Timberwolves acquired defensive standout Rudy Gobert in an epic trade deal, sending Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Walker Kessler, Jarred Vanderbilt,  Leandro Bolmaro, and multiple first-round picks, to the Utah Jazz.

Minnesota gave away a huge haul but Gobert is just the type of interior defender the Timberwolves need to take their game to the next level. A proven shot blocker and one of the best rim protectors in the league.

With Towns locked in until the summer of 2028, when he can choose to become a Free agent, the Wolves are fully invested in their franchise player, who averaged 24.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 41 percent from 3-point range.

Let’s revisit what Karl Anthony Towns is for the Minnesota Timberwolves today:

2015 NBA Rookie Of The Year
3x NBA All-Star
2021-22 NBA Three-Point Champion.

The Timberwolves’ signings were not spontaneous, nor was their trade for Rudy Gobert foolish. The team’s front office has supplied Karl Anthony Towns with all the weapons he needs to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to the next level. They drafted an elite scorer in Anthony Edwards in 2020 who has the potential to develop into an NBA superstar. Now the team has unburdened him from his primary basket defender role but paired him with 3x Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, who is coming off having the most efficient season of his career.

If you still don’t like what the Timberwolves did, it’s because you have never seen a team this good. Good things come to those who wait. Patience. Then decide.
