The Minnesota Timberwolves have gone from fully assembled back to some assembly required. The challenge now is to add pieces to a roster that nobody has seen play together before. That means that a lot of hard work is not back to the drawing board.

The team has some money to spend, but how will they spend it is the question, right?

Timberwolves Rudy Gobert roster (updated)

While the Minnesota Timberwolves trade for Rudy Gobert included a lot of players to make the dollars work, the two negotiating parties were rather diligent about ensuring not to stress the Timberwolves roster in the process. The Timberwolves traded five players but distributed those players so as not to impact the team’s positional distribution.

As we had stated before, suddenly, the Kyle Anderson signing makes a great deal more sense, as he provides the defensive oomph when Golbert is on the bench and Towns slides up to the 5-position. Of will he?

2 PG: D’Angelo Russell*, Patrick Beverly*, Jordan Mclaughlin
3 SG: Anthony Edwards, Malik Beasley, Jaylen Nowell, Bryn Forbes, Wendell Moore
2 SF: Taurean Prince, Jaden McDaniels, Leandro Bolmaro
2 PF: Karl Anthony Towns, Jarred Vanderbilt, Kyle Anderson, Nathan Knight**, Josh Minott**
2 C : Rudy Gobert, Walker Kessler, Karl-Anthony Towns (perhaps), Naz Reid

* Denotes combination guard
** Denotes player who will sign on a two-way contract

The Minnesota Timberwolves are only as good as their top eight players when it comes down to the postseason. Look at their top eight now? They have Rudy Gobert and Kyle Anderson among the group now. They already had D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, Taurean Prince, Jaden McDaniels, and Jaylen Nowell. Now? Just one more player, or roll the dice that Wendell Moore can develop into that player. Or perimeter marksman Bryn Forbes could be that guy.

The team needs help at the point, and perhaps another center if the plan is to ensure KAT remains at the power forward role. Those are decisions to be made in the future. The team has 12 players on the roster, with two more players earmarked for two-way contracts.

What will the Timberwolves do next? Stay tuned.
