There has been a bit of awe and respect with the arrival of Minnesota Timberwolves team president Tim Connelly. After all, he is the ‘Draft Whisperer,’ an NBA executive whose track record in identifying and acquiring diamonds in the rough has propelled him into one of the highest-paying executive roles in the NBA today.

Well, apparently nobody informed  Bleacher Report’s, Johnathan Wasserman. What prompts me to say that? Well, in his latest Ranking NBA’s Top Undrafted Prospects at Summer League article, not one Minnesota Timberwolves player is mentioned.

That is a bit surprising because the Timberwolves appear to have one of the more intriguing Summer League rosters in 2022.

While the list is based on the top undrafted prospects, there were a few who seemed to be worth an honorable mention on the Timberwolves Summer League roster.

It’s a good group.

Timberwolves Summer League roster

For starters, the list is only the 20 top prospects of 30 teams, so there’s that. But there are some teams that had the audacity to get multiple players on the list. Perhaps the criteria were too restrictive. The Timberwolves did populate their SL roster with G-League and Euroleague prospects who may not have been eligible to be on the list.

The Timberwolves’ selection process for their roster seemed to be about eventual fits for the team. But there were plenty of solid players.

While 6-foot-6 guard Kevon Harris has played in the G-league in just his second season, he has been a solid contributor with over 15 points per game. 6-foot-10 center Devid McCormack out of Kansas is an undrafted rookie who averaged 7.0 rebounds per game while putting up 10.2 points per game in his senior season. 6-foot-5 guard Matt Lewis put up 11.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in his one and only season in the G-league.

Perhaps the rankings are absolutely correct. But it feels a bit arbitrary, as these are rankings before the fact. I guess that is what the author was looking for after all.

Nothing gets the interest piqued like a little bit of controversy.
