Some fans believe the NBA Summer League to be a primed opportunity for drafted and undrafted players to prove their worth.  Others simply view the NBA Summer League as a chance for rookies and NBA hopefuls to get their first taste of professional basketball. However you see it, one thing is certain. The wait for the Minnesota Timberwolves Summer League to begin is over.

The team suits up at 8:00 pm CT on Friday, July 8, 2022.

Here is a look at the Minnesota Timberwolves Summer League Schedule

Timberwolves Assistant Coach Kevin Burleson will coach the Minnesota squad.  Unfortunately, a former first-round draft pick, Walker Kessler, headed to the Utah Jazz. That is also true for guard Leandro Bolmaro.

We do have good news for everyone, as both Wendell Moore and Josh Minnott, two new additions to the team, will be making their debut in the summer league competition.

Here is a look at the Timberwolves’ updated Summer League Roster.

With trade rumors looming around over starting point guard D’Angelo Russell, who is entering the final year of his contract, the backcourt in Minnesota has transformed from strength to shrouded by a mysterious fog. And that may be a deliberate decision by the team’s front office.

Timberwolves tidbits

The Timberwolves needed Russell to step up vs. the Grizzlies in the NBA playoffs. Instead, he folded under pressure. Russell averaged a season-low 12.0 points, 6.7 assists, and 2.5 rebounds vs. the Memphis Grizzlies at a time when the team needed him most. That is not the first time that he has underwhelmed in postseason play.

With star guard Anthony Edwards primed to take on a more significant role next season, the Timberwolves are looking for a point guard who can consistently play efficiently on the offensive end of the floor and run the floor.

Let’s talk a look at what Wendell Moore Jr brings to the table. Wendell Moore Jr won the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year award and made the Second-team All-ACC All-Defensive Team. he competed in 25 games, 11 starts, and averaged 7.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.

Moore is an offensive playmaker with a high defensive IQ. While scoring may not be his specialty. He could take some pressure off Anthony Edwards by bringing the ball up the court. He will certainly be someone everyone will be talking about during and after the summer competition.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will attend the 17th edition of the NBA Las Vegas Summer League.
