The Minnesota Timberwolves are 1-1 in their first two NBA Summer league contests. They appeared to be a rather well-oiled roster in their first contest. But they truly appeared to be a summer league roster that had not played together before this one. So much went right for the team in game one. So much didn’t go right in game two.

The star of game one, Josh Minott, looked every bit the part of a late Round 2 prospect. Minott had seven points, six personal fouls, and five turnovers.  David McCormack, who was in double-digit scoring in game one,  was just one of two on the floor, and one of two from the foul line. Wendell Moore Jr., another hot scorer in game one, was three of eleven from the floor, including just one of eight from the perimeter.

On the whole, the Minnesota Timberwolves were close but they were far too undisciplined in this one. Their team had 22 fouls and 21 turnovers. They shot just 33.8 percent from the floor overall, and just 12.1 percent from the perimeter. So did anything work for the Timberwolves?

For the second consecutive game, guard Kevon Harris showed up for the Timberwolves in solid fashion. Harris led the team in scoring with 17 points, scoring seven of 14 shots from the floor. While only one of six from three-point range, he did one of just four three-pointers scored by the Timberwolves all night. He also added three rebounds, one assist, and two steals in the game.

The Timberwolves appeared to be pushing too hard in this one. They pulled up to a tie game at halftime at 35 apiece, but just like game one, the entire roster appeared to be incredibly fatigued in the final quarter. The Grizzlies’ margin of victory was eight points, and they pulled ahead by seven of those points in the fourth quarter.

The Grizzlies star was Santi Aldama, who played 32 games with the main roster in the 2021-2022 season. He put up 22 points, eight rebounds, six steals, one assist, and two blocks in the game.

The Timberwolves will enjoy a minor rest period before resuming action on June 13.

See ya then!
