Timberwolves roster: Call ’em Fire and Ice

The Timberwolves roster is constructed a bit differently. For starters, the Timberwolves roster was the offensive-centric team that the Pelicans were in 2017-18. So with that in mind, the Minnesota Timberwolves front office, with the aid of some of the brightest NBA executives in the game today, set out to fix the defense.

The front office is not just tossing in a great NBA center, closing their eyes, and hoping it all works out. Rather, the personnel department has been pruning here, grafting there, all with a master plan in mind.

There is more at work in today’s NBA than just packing talented players onto the roster. It’s very much like a jigsaw puzzle. New players have to be more than stats. They need to be a true fit on the team to improve their performance.

Gobert is the ice on the Timberwolves roster. His ability to reject shots at the basket is well documented. He averages over 2.0 blocks per game. But he does more than deny opponent shots. He is a hoover vacuum at rebounding. He averages over 3.0 offensive rebounds and continues to get more and more rebounds at the defensive end of the basketball court.

KAT is now the fire on the Timberwolves roster. He is the guy who gets hot from anywhere on the basketball court. He has flirted with or exceeded 25.0 points per game in the past four seasons. He shoots a phenomenal 50.0+ percentage from the floor, and an even more electrifying 40.0+ percent shooting from three-point range.  He creates havoc for opponents because he is a big physical presence who also has long-range artillery.
