Competition and opportunity
The Timberwolves capped off their Summer League stint with a clutch victory over the Charlotte Hornets 89-86 in their fifth game of NBA Summer League competition. That means that the team finished with a record of 2-3, not exactly the performance they wanted. However, the young players got some well-needed professional playing time.
The competition also gave the Minnesota Timberwolves front office folks one more chance to identify players who may play a role for the team this season. It also gave players access to NBA coaches who can identify weaknesses and areas where they can improve to be more competitive in the future.
The team has not shied away from making bold and aggressive moves so far this off-season. But it’s pretty clear that the team is not swinging for the fences and ignoring the bottom part of the roster. That adds a bit of mystery to the questions posed above.
