Timberwolves Karl-Anthony Towns: “We’ve got to get it done now”
By Bret Stuter
The Minnesota Timberwolves scheduled a media event for Friday, July 22, 2022. It was time, as the team has been rather active, both in addressing current players and acquiring new players. So it made sense for the team’s brass to sit down and afford a bit of access to the media.
Among the entourage of the Minnesota Timberwolves was C/PF Karl-Anthony Towns, a player who has recently signed a four-year $224 million super-max extension. Now, the team and players are out to deliver on the lofty expectations. Can they? Well, time will tell.
One such player who is clearly aware of the mounting pressure on the team is veteran center turned power forward Karl Anthony Towns. In fact, during the media session, he addressed the matter head-on:
That’s encouraging, as the burden of the change heading into the 2022-23 season will fall squarely upon Towns, as he will pivot from a do-all center to an offensive-centric power forward over the course of one season.
Of course, there is the fact that when offered his extension, Towns immediately signed on the dotted line. He has never hesitated to discuss how happy he is playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves. In fact, he has continued to stress that point at every opportunity.
As the closing line for the classic movie Casablanca says: “Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”
