After the Minnesota Timberwolves filled 15 roster spots, and one Two-Way Contract, the last player signing seemed like a slam dunk shot. The Minnesota Timberwolves had to be pleased with the high-energy, high-production summer league performance of backcourt wonder guard Kevon Harris. It was the type of energy that any NBA team would be happy to have in their locker room.

It seemed like a slam dunk to everyone who has been monitoring the roster additions for the Timberwolves to sign Harris to their last Two-Way Contract.  To everyone but the Timberwolves, it seems.

Today, the Orlando Magic stepped in with a Two-Way Contract, and Harris has agreed to sign. Go figure.

It could be that the Timberwolves are focused on adding a different position to that last spot. Perhaps the team feels it wiser to add a young center to the roster, a player who can develop over time to eventually compete for minutes as the rim protector?  Kevon Harris does not fit that role.

It could also be that the Timberwolves have their heart set on a young point guard. Someone to run the floor, distribute the ball, defend the perimeter, and make the occasional three-point shot. While Kevon Harris meets some of those needs, he is not quite the point guard that the Timberwolves may be interested in.

Today’s news about the Orlando Magic is a bit of a mild surprise. Hopefully, it did not catch the Timberwolves front office by surprise.  I am quite impressed at how quickly the team has constructed a solid two-deep roster so quickly. Now the team must be selective to ensure that they have enough resources in stock to reinforce the roster over the course of a long season.
