Last week, the Minnesota Timberwolves signed veteran guard Austin Rivers to a one-year, $2.91 million contract. It was their next step in replenishing the on-court production lost in the Rudy Gobert trade.

No stranger to the NBA game, Rivers is now a grizzled 10-year league vet. He’s come a long way from the teenager that went one-and-done at Duke University a decade ago, and while he’s had his ups and downs, he has proven to truly be a valuable rotational player in the league.

After spending multi-year stints with the Clippers and Rockets, Rivers found his way to Denver at the end of the 2021 regular season. It was there that he found a sort of career rebirth, carving out a solid role and filling in during the absence of Jamal Murray. After spending a year-plus with the Nuggets, he ends up in Minnesota, where he’ll be able to bring several skills to the table that will help the Timberwolves from day one.
