Earlier this week, former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley was asked if he was surprised when he was traded from the Wolves to the Jazz. His answer was similar to what most players would probably say: that it wasn’t a surprise because he knows it’s never personal and always business, and that he understood it.
He went on to say more about his time with the Timberwolves. “We did some great things in Minnesota. We revamped the environment there, and gave the fans something to be happy about … It was a vibe. I was able to vibe out with a lot of young guys,” said Beverley.
While many fans were probably disappointed the Timberwolves couldn’t keep him around for next season, it’s nice to hear Pat Bev reflect positively on his time in Minnesota. It goes without saying that he was an impactful player on the court for the Wolves last season, but his presence off the court did just as much to continue building a winning culture within the organization.
Beverley, aka “Mr. 94 feet,” is seen by many NBA fans as one of those players that you can’t stand unless he plays for your team. But when he is in your team’s uniform, he brings an energy and charisma that’s easy to latch on to. Even if it was just for one season, players like Anthony Edwards probably learned a lot just from being around him.
And who could forget when Beverley climbed up onto the scorer’s table at the Target Center after the Wolves’ play-in victory over the Clippers? The video of him taking off his jersey and emphatically tossing it into the crowd went viral on Twitter within a matter of minutes.
There’s no doubt Pat Bev left his mark in Minnesota with his relentless play and gritty attitude. Beverley’s fingerprints are now all over the organization, and whatever success the Timberwolves see this coming year, we can be sure he’ll be somewhere smiling.
