Will Ant-Man regret comments about teammate Rudy Gobert?
By Bret Stuter
Sometimes, you have to be careful what you say, particularly if those words find their way to social media. That is the dilemma for Minnesota Timberwolves star shooting guard Anthony Edwards. You see, he was less than awestruck by the defense of former Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert. At the time, Gobert was still playing center for the Jazz, and Edwards was scoring lots of points for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
It was not an inflammatory comment. Edwards simply stated that he believed that Kristaps Porzingas was a better rim protector than Rudy Gobert because he could not get a layup against Porzingas.
Well, it looks as though Rudy Gobert will have plenty of opportunities to stiffen up his defense against Anthony Edwards, as they will be practicing against one another on a daily basis.
That could prove to be a good thing. Iron sharpens iron, and the fact that Gobert will be practicing regularly against Edwards should result in both players getting better. That’s one of the unspoken benefits of upgrading the talent level on the roster. Better players tend to elevate the play of those around them.
Still, you have to wonder if these comments will ever come up in conversation between the two going forward. Will Gobert dig in a little bit deeper to prove his defensive prowess to Ant-Man? Or does Edwards have a style that naturally is nearly impossible for Gobert to do anything to counter near the basket?
It’s definitely something worth keeping an eye on this season.
