As the old adage goes, defense wins championships. So it’s a good thing the Minnesota Timberwolves are even more equipped to flourish on that end of the floor next year. They added a multiple-time Defensive Player of the Year in Rudy Gobert, and will now be able to smother opposing offenses at the rim.

While they can’t forget about the importance of perimeter defense, it will be exciting to see what a defensive anchor like Gobert does for this team. On top of that, they have several more players with high defensive capability. Their collective improvement on that side of the ball is a big reason why many are high on the Wolves this year.
