With Patrick Beverley‘s deal with the Los Angeles Lakers now complete, it appears that all the former Minnesota Timberwolves players dealt in the Rudy Gobert trade have now found a new permanent home in the NBA.
Beverley will join a Lakers squad that missed the playoffs last season. After he was sent to Utah in July, many wondered if he’d be on the move again, and now the beloved former Timberwolf will be back in Los Angeles.
As for Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt, they’ll be remaining with the Utah Jazz, so the three major rotational players traded by the Timberwolves this offseason will all still be playing out West.
With the Lakers and Jazz being frequent opponents of Minnesota, let’s take a look at when and where the Timberwolves will play against their former players this season.
Pat Bev Will Return To Minnesota Twice
Seeing how Patrick Beverley became so beloved among Timberwolves fans after just one season in Minnesota, matchups between the Lakers and Wolves next year just got even more emotional. He was Minnesota’s go-to perimeter defensive stopper and driving locker room leader, and he’ll now bring all those qualities to the Lakers.
According to Pat Bev’s comments on ESPN a few months ago, he believes he can help them get back to the Western Conference Finals. His presence on that team will make what was already an exciting matchup absolute must-see TV.
The Timberwolves will face off with the Lakers three times, twice in Minnesota, and once in Los Angeles. They’ll travel to LA on March 3rd, and host on October 28th and March 31st. Timberwolves fans won’t even have to wait two weeks into the season before seeing Beverley back on the floor in Minnesota.
Utah Jazz Play In Minnesota Opening Week
Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt will also get a chance to play against their former team right away. The Jazz will be in Minnesota for game two of the season on October 21st. After that, the Timberwolves play Utah an additional three times, on December 9th and February 8th in Salt Lake City, and in Minneapolis January 16th.
So, Minnesota’s full timeline of matchups with their former players looks like this:
- October 21st vs Jazz
- October 28th vs Lakers
- December 9th at Jazz
- January 16th vs Jazz
- February 8th at Jazz
- March 3rd at Lakers
- March 31st vs Lakers
All the players involved in the trade for Rudy Gobert will return to Target Center before the calendar hits November. And with a total of seven games against former players Timberwolves fans grew to love, it should add an extra element of fun to Minnesota’s packed 2022-23 schedule.
