NBA execs shamefully forget Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards exists

In a recently conducted offseason survey, a panel of 15 NBA coaches, scouts, and executives gave their opinions on various offseason storylines, player debates, and predictions for the upcoming season.

The results of the survey were mostly what one would expect from people closely connected to the league. However, there was one major mistake that was made.

One of the questions asked to these executives and coaches was who they thought the best player in the NBA would be five years from now, and not one voted for the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards.

A pretty shocking result, if you ask me. The actual answers given by these executives were as follows:

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo: 7 votes
  • Luka Doncic: 6 votes
  • Jayson Tatum: 2 votes

It’s not an absurd take to think Giannis could still be the best player in the league in 2027. After all, he’ll only be 32 by then, and he’s such a physical specimen that it shouldn’t be much of a problem for him to still be playing at a high level.

Ant Has Best-In-The-League Potential

But for Anthony Edwards to not get even one vote in this survey is absurd. Ant is a budding superstar who is set to rise to the level of a top 10-to-15 level player this coming season. Not to mention he just turned 21 years old, meaning that in five years he’ll still be younger than Giannis is right now.

With all the time he has to mature and get better, and considering how good he already is, it’s not a biased take to say he can reach the level of best player in the NBA by the time he’s 26. He’s already well on his way with all his milestones reached and records broken.

In March, Ant scored 24 points in Boston, giving him the sixth most points in league history before turning 21. He passed Kobe Bryant to move up to sixth. And last December, Edwards became the youngest player in NBA history to make 10 three-pointers in a game.

Anthony Edwards is already so far along in his game at such a young age, it’s unbelievable he was left off the list completely. This will just become one more source of motivation for him going into the season.
