As we draw closer to the start of the NBA season, one of the most exciting things to watch for leading up to training camp is the arrival of the new jerseys teams will wear this season.

For a team like the Minnesota Timberwolves where great jersey designs have been common throughout the history of the team, there’s a pretty high standard that the fanbase expects to be met.

Fans are going to decide quickly whether a new uniform combination is appealing or not. Since Nike took over production of the NBA jerseys, more and more styles have been produced each year, so there’s a lot of pressure to come up with good designs.

For the Minnesota Timberwolves, the new “Statement” edition jersey was announced Thursday morning. Here’s what it looks like:

This design will replace the Timberwolves’ previous “Statement” jersey, which featured a bright green base, highlighted by a white stripe and the word “Minnesota” across the chest in deep blue.

There were mixed feelings among the fanbase for these jerseys. While some fans loved the unique bright green coloring, others weren’t so crazy about it. So I’m sure some will be happy to see this design go.

For the new jersey design released today, the green is still present, but it’s been reduced heavily. Now featuring thin green stripes along the neck, chest, and leg, the background is a charcoal black and sports the word “Timberwolves” across the chest.

Overall, this feels like a “safer” design meant to cause less disagreement among the fanbase. It’s not as extravagant, so there will likely be less extreme opinions of it, whether positive or negative.

While this is still a pretty solid jersey overall, it’s hard to think many Timberwolves fans wouldn’t like to see a return of the 1996-08 designs that were already brought back once in 2018-19. The “City” edition uniform still hasn’t been released yet, so we could be in for a pleasant surprise.
