There will be a large number of articles analyzing the positives and negatives of adding NBA All-Star Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves roster. But the strength of an NBA Championship roster is not always found in the starting five players but in the entire rotation. Right now, the Minnesota Timberwolves will only be successful if this team can muster solid perimeter shooting.

Sadly, that role was primarily occupied by a former Timberwolves sharpshooter by the name of Malk Beasley. But Beasly was traded away. Who on this roster can backfill that ability to hit the bullseye from beyond the arc?

I think we have a strong candidate:

And yet, he is a considerable addition, not just for what he does, but because he is incredibly versatile. Forbes is just as effective as a starter as he is as a rotational chess piece coming off the bench. Of course, this is what he does.

Despite getting just 18 minutes in the first preseason game against the Miami Heat, Bryn Forbes was the team’s third-leading scorer. His 15 points off the bench came in second to only SG Anthony Edwards (23 minutes – 24 points) and PF Tauren Prince (20 minutes – 19 points). Forbes hit on four of six from the floor, including hitting two of three treys. And he was even in mid-season form, hitting on five of six free throws.

While it is only the first preseason, it was a wonderful debut for the veteran shooter. He played less than his career average of 20.5 minutes per game but put up nearly twice what he has averaged in scoring over his career (9.1 PPG).

We know that the Timberwolves are looking for shooters to toss in around their starting core, and clearly, Bryn Forbes is a player who is making a solid bid for that role. It was the Timberwolves’ first preseason contest, and the team chose not to play Rudy Gobert, Karl-Anthony Towns, and D’Angelo Russell.

The Timberwolves defeated the Miami Heat by a score of 121-111.  Not only did the Timberwolves appear every bit as capable of scoring as the 2021-22 NBA season, but the team has to be pleased with how well Bryn Forbes played in his debut.

121. 86. 111. 110. Final
