Reason I: The Timberwolves are finally playing both Rudy Gobert and Karl Anthony Towns together

If you think that the suspense over seeing Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert playing on the same basketball court is killing you, you can take solace in the knowledge that you are not alone. The truth is that the Minnesota Timberwolves have struggled to get both of their big guys on the basketball court at the same time, so not even their teammates have witnessed how well they will play together.

Due to an untimely illness with Karl-Anthony Towns and knee soreness with Rudy Gobert, the Timberwolves have not had many occasions to put both bigs on the basketball court at the same time.

Twin Towers of the Twin Cities

The fact that Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Town have not competed together for the Minnesota Timberwolves just yet may lead to some awkward moments as the team settles into handling both the offense and defense with their stars present.  Keeping that in mind, I’m less interested in the final score of the game, and will be curious to see how the following plays out:

Question I: D’Angelo Russell and Rudy Gobert will have their second opportunity to compete for the same team.  The pair combined for 18 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and zero blocks in their first time together against the LA Lakers. I’d like to see more offense from the duo in this one, and a lot more rim protection out of Gobert. He’ll have his chance, as we know that the Brooklyn Nets Ben Simmons will look to drive to the basket.

Question II: Along the same lines, I will be very interested to see the chemistry between Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. In their lone appearance together to face the LA Clippers, the pair combined for 33 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, two steals, and zero blocks.  The Timberwolves clearly intend for both KAT and Ant-Man to be featured this season and for the foreseeable future.  How well will they complement one another? How well will the Timberwolves play around them?

Question III: So far, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been performing superbly all across the roster. Perhaps that is the caliber of talent on the team. Or perhaps it’s simply that the team has had fun awaiting the debut of their starting lineup. What I am interested in seeing is the quality of the Timberwolves’ bench performers. Will they continue to step up after stepping off the bench? Or will the presence of starters dampen their energy, and be the catalyst for a drop in the quality of play from rotational players?

The Minnesota Timberwolves host the Brooklyn Nets at the Target Center, with the tipoff scheduled for 7:00 pm CT.

You won’t want to miss this one.  It’s only preseason, yes. But it’s the unveiling of the Twin Towers of the Twin Cities. And unveilings only happen once in a lifetime.
