III: Many believe D’Lo benefits most from Rudy Gobert

If you are bringing in a guy who scores on 75 percent of his shots from the floor, that most certainly helps out the point guard, who is bringing the ball down the court and looking for the open shooter to score points.

Rudy Gobert delivers that. And then some.

But it’s not just the physical play on the basketball court at work for the Timberwolves’ point guard this season, but the struggle above the neck as well. DLo is having fun playing basketball this season, and that is all thanks to the fact that he has a guy who will set as many screens for him as he wants, will score on as many alley-oops as he sets up, and will dig out as many defensive rebounds as necessary.

That’s just what Rudy Gobert delivers.

Timberwolves hand the keys to DLo

Meanwhile, we cannot avoid mentioning that the Timberwolves trading away guard Patrick Beverley may indeed be a benefit to Russell this season. Without that guy on the roster gunning for your roster spot, this team is truly D’Angelo Russell’s team this season. That could be a huge boost as well.

Focusing on failing is the easiest way to fail. With Pat Bev waiting in the wings, DLo not only faced competition from the opposing team, but a harsh critic who played for the Timberwolves as well. Does that trash-talking brutal truth always help a team? I’m not so sure that it’s doing much good for the LA Lakers locker room so far this season.
