Even as the Minnesota Timberwolves are moments from the debut of their 2022-23 NBA Season, the front office continues to prune and graft players to the roster. Today, the Timberwolves front office has completed step one of that two-step process by announcing that the team has waived forward Eric Paschall, a player who the team had signed to a Two-Way contract. The team has yet to announce filling the void that his release creates on their roster.

In three NBA seasons, Paschall has averaged 9.82 points on 49.4 percent shooting and 32.6 percent shooting from the perimeter.  We know that he signed on with the team on a Two-Way contract, a signing that seemed to hold significant potential for the team.

Couldn’t answer the bell

Paschall was unable to go for the Minnesota Timberwolves for the season opener, but he had such a promising rookie season at nearly 14 points, 4.6 rebounds, and over 2.1 assists per game. That’s very promising for a 6-foot-6 255-pound NBA rookie, and many hoped to replicate that season with the Timberwolves.

So what prompted such a late roster decision?

With the release, the likelihood of Paschall being set to compete anytime soon seems low. But the move does free up a Two-Way contract slot for the Timberwolves to use. Will the front office make a move soon, or sort out what the roster needs are after wading through a game or two?

NBA free agents are about as numerous as they’ll be all season with teams recently paring down to the 15+2 roster limits. So the Minnesota Timberwolves may not be in any rush to sign up anyone immediately.
