The Minnesota Timberwolves are 2-1, and as such are feeling pretty good about themselves. But before either the team or the fans get too carried away, the Timberwolves’ two wins have come at the expense of the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team that many expect to finish at or near the bottom of the NBA standings at year’s end.
The Timberwolves’ lone loss has come at the hands of another team many expected to end this season with a lottery pick, the Utah Jazz. So far, that has not been the case, as the Jazz are 3-0 in the early stages of the season.
The Timberwolves’ next opponent, the San Antonio Spurs, is another team believed to be scouting top NBA prospects in the 2023 NBA Draft, but the team has won two games so far, and like the Jazz, is beating expectations. In fact, the Spurs are on a two-game winning streak, particularly surprising as they handed the Philadelphia 76ers their third consecutive loss of the season.
The Spurs are led in scoring by fourth-year small forward Keldon Johnson, who averages 21.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. But the San Antonio Spurs’ entire starting five is averaging better than double-digit scoring per game already.
The Timberwolves scoring is led by third-year shooting guard Anthony Edwards, who averages 23.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Right now, Anthony Edwards is red hot, and the Timberwolves hope that he doesn’t cool off for some time.
Along with his season-high 11 rebounds, Edwards recorded his second career 30+ point/10+ rebound game (Nov. 24, 2021 vs. Miami). https://t.co/dj9i38erh1

The Timberwolves have five other players averaging double-digit scoring as well.

Recommended Bets:
While this is the fourth game for the Timberwolves season, I am not confident enough to determine how far along this team has come in terms of refining their rotations and compatibility. The Timberwolves are sporadic from three-point shooting, have too many fouls and turnovers, and at times, particularly in the second half of games, are more interested in taking naps than competing in a basketball game.
The Timberwolves are getting closer to their goal. For the first time this season, the Timberwolves outhustled the opponent in the second half.
