4 reasons why Timberwolves rumors of Karl-Anthony Towns trade is nuts
By Bret Stuter
The Minnesota Timberwolves have played 14 of the 82 games scheduled for the 2022-23 NBA season. So far, the Timberwolves have a less-than-impressive record of 6-8, which by my calculations is a pretty respectable start for a team that had almost no opportunity to work together before the season started.
In fact, the team’s last preseason outing, a loss to the Brooklyn Nets, was actually the first time that the Timberwolves roster played the five projected starters on the same basketball court. Since that time, the Minnesota Timberwolves have appeared quite dysfunctional. At least, that was the impression of the team until the team traveled to Cleveland and handed the Cleveland Cavaliers their first home loss of the season.
Timberwolves turn the corner
Since that victory, the Timberwolves have rallied to a two-game winning streak on the road. Their second victory came at the expense of the Orlando Magic, a team that had had recent success defeating a few good teams of late. But it has more than just winning. Of late, the Timberwolves are beginning to perform in areas of the game that had eluded this team for weeks.
Timberwolves point guard D’Angelo Russell, a player who was the topic of Timberwolves rumors over the likelihood of being traded to the New York Knicks early in the off-season, showed up in a huge way against the Cavaliers. That performance alone seemed to quell the unrest of fans who want the Timberwolves to part ways with D’Lo as quickly as possible. Well, for the time being anyway.
But the Knicks have been rumored to be in the market for the talented players who are currently on the Minnesota Timberwolves roster in the past. Now, thanks to the recent podcast by NBA pundit Bill Simmon hosting The Ringer’s staff writer Michael Pina, those rumors are taking center stage once more. But before we talk about these latest Timberwolves rumors, let’s set up some background for the scenario that seems to beg rumors to develop between the Knicks and the Timberwolves.
