Timberwolves fans react to embarrassing loss to Wizards on Twitter
By Will Eudy
It was yet another tough outing for the Minnesota Timberwolves on the second night of a back-to-back in Washington on Monday night. Being thoroughly beaten by a .500 Wizards team was an awfully discouraging sign for Timberwolves fans.
After securing five wins in a row and taking down several playoff contenders, the Wolves appeared to be righting the ship. But Monday night’s loss marked their third such result in a row, giving them a losing record overall once again at 10-11.
Despite what appeared to be steady progress, the Timberwolves have seemingly fallen back into their old bad habits and have looked nothing like the team that won five games in a row for the last several days. It is results like this that make fans feel that if things do not change soon or a trade is not made, this team could be in big trouble.
With things looking as bad as ever in Minnesota, Timberwolves fans took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with the team’s performance and overall direction.
Minnesota Timberwolves fans blasted the team on Twitter after loss
As expected, many Timberwolves fans will not stand for how the team is currently underperforming. For a team with such lofty expectations in the offseason, losing this much this early is a strike through the heart of fans.
One fan, Twitter user @gbsoccer6, expressed their opinion that as currently constructed, the Timberwolves will win no more than 30 games. They cited the reasoning behind this take to the Wolves’ lack of three-point shooting, speed, and leaders on the roster.
It is certainly easy to understand where they are coming from. Minnesota has sorely lacked direction this season, and their recent success is looking more like a flash in the pan right now.
Another fan expressed their frustration with the current situation by suggesting that the Timberwolves’ best option would be to trade Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, citing the players’ lack of fit with each other.
They are not the first person to bring up this idea. Many questioned how effective Towns and Gobert could be together when the trade was first made, and those people are looking more correct than ever right now.
During a stretch of games where the Timberwolves have been being outrebounded by their opponents despite possessing significant size advantages, this message rings loud and clear.
With the Timberwolves looking nothing like the gritty, spirited group that made Minnesota fans proud every time they took the floor last season, many fans are yearning for the long-gone fire that seemed to burn inside the heart of every Timberwolves player last year.
Twitter user @socialmattr expressed this notion by bringing up the seeming lack of fit with this current Minnesota Timberwolves roster. While it is debatable if there is any true resentment between players, it is clear there is still much work to do on getting them all to function as a unit.
A problem the 2021-22 squad simply did not have. If this team continues to operate at its current capacity, we can expect to be in for a long season of similar fan reactions.
