The Minnesota Timberwolves are going through a trying time. In a season with arguably more expectations than any in franchise history, the team is struggling to live up to their potential. Timberwolves fans seem as pessimistic as ever, and the results on the court aren’t helping.
Add in the fact that Minnesota lost their All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns to injury on Monday night, and it is shaping up to be a very difficult time for the team from the Twin Cities. Many seem ready to throw in the towel on this group.
But amid all the chaos and disappointments, one Timberwolves player had an unexpected message for the fanbase. It was a brief memo, but one that leaves behind an uplifting vibe for anyone supporting this team.
Austin Rivers left a candid comment on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Instagram post
Under the Timberwolves’ final score post that indicated the team’s 142-127 loss to the Washington Wizards Monday night, Austin Rivers left a comment that no doubt came as a surprise to many.
Rivers voiced his shared frustration with the Timberwolves’ situation while also offering hope for a brighter future.
His comment reads: “Usually not one for this … But stay with us. We know we don’t look good right now. It’s been tough tbh. Tough to play in and tough to watch. But it will turn around for us. Straight up. Stay with it.”
The comment has received over 2,000 likes, nearly one fifth the likes of the original post.
It’s clear that many Timberwolves fans appreciated the fact that Rivers took the time to voice his thoughts. With so much of the fanbase let down and disappointed with this season, it is encouraging to hear that the players feel a similar way.
In addition, fans have to be encouraged to hear a voice of optimism come from within the organization. With many feeling like there is little chance for improvement, Rivers’ belief in the long-term success of this group has to be extremely uplifting.
It is messages like these that will go a long way toward helping the Timberwolves fanbase keep the faith in this team going forward. If the players in the locker room are publicly broadcasting that they still believe things can be changed for the better, fans will desire to rally around them even more.
