The Minnesota Timberwolves will take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night at Target Center in their first meeting of the regular season.

The Wolves are coming off a tough road trip to Portland where they were swept in the two-game series with the Trail Blazers. Dropping back down below .500 at 13-14, Minnesota needs to gain ground in the standings, and fast.

They will have a tough challenge in facing off with the deep and talented Clippers, who have won their last two contests. Those two wins include a blowout win over the Boston Celtics on Monday night, the team currently holding the best record in the association.

Timberwolves vs. Clippers Odds, Spread, Over/Under

The latest odds from FanDuel Sportsbook have the Clippers as -6.5 point favorites against the spread. The Timberwolves are +215 on the moneyline, with the Clippers coming in at -260.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Los Angeles Clippers Prediction

Minnesota will face off against the Clippers for the first time since their memorable contest in the 2022 play-in game. The shorthanded Timberwolves will have a tough matchup in their one-game road trip to Los Angeles, talent-wise.

With D’Angelo Russell suffering from a banged up knee, he is questionable to be in the starting lineup Wednesday night. In addition, Karl-Anthony Towns remains out. The Wolves could be down two starters, and Austin Rivers or Jaylen Nowell will likely be sliding into the starting lineup.

It is likely Kyle Anderson occupies the Wolves’ other open spot with the starters. While D’Angelo Russell has had an up-and-down season, his absence may be a huge factor against the Clippers. Through five games in December, he was averaging 26.4 points per game on a ridiculous 57.6% shooting mark.

The Clippers will be without both John Wall and Norman Powell, who is missing his eighth game in a row with a groin strain. With Kawhi Leonard presumably joining Paul George in the starting lineup on Wednesday, Los Angeles will have their best two players available. Minnesota will have their hands full dealing with two of the most elite scoring wings in the league.

But without John Wall, the Clippers will have one less facilitator to set up their offense. The Timberwolves will need to capitalize on this by making smart decisions on defense and closing out on Los Angeles’ shooters. If they can frustrate George and Leonard enough to muck up the Clippers’ offense, they could have a chance in this one.
