5. Draymond Green

Let’s not kid ourselves. Draymond Green is a Hall of Fame player, but he is not who he used to be. This year, he is finally scoring over eight points per game for the first time since 2017-18, but he is nowhere near the all-around player he was five seasons ago.

It is understandable for The Ringer to place him as high as they did on their list given his career accolades and accomplishments. He is a surefire pick for the Hall of Fame after winning four championships with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. Their run of success has put them in the conversation with some of the greatest teams in NBA history.

But individually, Green does not measure up to Anthony Edwards in the year 2022. It has often been said that a fan’s opinion of Draymond Green can be a good indicator of how well they understand basketball, and I believe that holds up. Draymond does a lot of things on a basketball court that lead to his team’s success that are not always evident in the box score.

Even so, with Edwards’ game becoming more complete as well, he is far clear of Green at this point in time. Ant has blossomed into a full-fledged offensive star, while Draymond still struggles to not be a liability on that side of the basketball.

One could argue Green’s edge defensively gives him an argument, but Edwards’ improvements as an on-ball defender have made the difference less significant than before. As accomplished a career as Draymond has had, there is no chance he is a better all-around player than the Timberwolves’ rising star.
