Is Taurean Prince playing tonight, January 27th?
By Bret Stuter
The Minnesota Timberwolves roster has been hammered with injuries of all kinds this season. But the impact of some players sitting on the bench is far less damaging to this team than the impact of other players sitting out. Right now, one of the most important players to this Timberwolves roster is forward Taurean Prince, a player whose versatility and dependable play on the basketball court have given this team a true boost this season.
Unfortunately, he has fallen to injury far too often this season, as he has only been able to suit up for 28 of the Minnesota Timberwolves 50 games this season. His latest absence occurred against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday, January 25, 2023:
Prince is so very vital simply because he fills so many roles for the Timberwolves. And that generalist role is vital to this team, because the Timberwolves have so many player injuries, that the team has been forced to repurpose players to new roles for this team.
We know that the team has depended heavily upon star shooting guard Anthony Edwards to handle much of the team’s defense, as well as put points on the scoreboard. We also know that this team has relied heavily upon the versatility of point forward Kyle Anderson to take on the yolk of ball handling for this team while backup point guard Jordan McLaughlin has been injured.
The latest injury information for the Minnesota Timberwolves is:
Player Injury Status
Rudy Gobert Groin Questionable
Karl-Anthony Towns Calf Out
Jordan McLaughlin Calf Out
Taurean Prince Ankle Out
Prince has been dependable for the Timberwolves, when he’s healthy. Unfortunately so far this season, that has not always been the case. He has suited up for just 28 of the Timberwolves’ 50 gams this season, and that’s not enough to keep the team, aligned with winning. But it’s that veteran calm that has made Prince so very important to this team this season. And that calm has allowed Prince to assume a leadership role for this team.
That leadership has helped keep this team focused on key fundamentals when the team suffers losses, and enables the team to rally to victories. With Prince on the basketball court, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a 17-11 record. Without him on the basketball court, the Timberwolves have stumbled to a 7-14 record. However else you see his contribution, one thing in quite clear.
The Timberwolves are a better team with forward Taurean Prince playing. The trouble is, he is not playing enough.
