Timberwolves Trade Rumors: Nuggets announce Hyland open to trade
By Bret Stuter
The Minnesota Timberwolves may be active at the NBA Trade Deadline after all. The Timberwolves continue to be linked as a team that is very interested in acquiring Denver Nuggets point guard Bones Hyland, and recent NBA Trade Rumors have reported that the Timberwolves and Nuggets are in talks over making that happen. Who are the players involved? Minnesota Timberwolves Naz Reid and Denver Nuggets Bones Hyland.
But what of Bones Hyland? On their January 31, 2023, broadcast of the game where the Denver Nuggets hosted the New Orleans Pelicans, the Nuggets announcer Chris Haynes reported that Nuggets guard Bones Hyland is open to being traded to another team for a larger role. Not only is that good news unto itself, but the fact that Hyland is aware of the potential for a larger role seems to have the Minnesota Timberwolves right in the crosshairs.
Of course, both the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets are in the hunt for upgrades to their roster. While both teams are looking for a path to the NBA Playoffs, the Nuggets are clearly positioned to win now, while the Timberwolves are still trying to find cohesive and consistent play from their team.
So how could the Timberwolves be willing to trade to an NBA Western Conference rival? Well, the Timberwolves have been linked to the Nuggets’ backup PG Bones Hyland before, and the Timberwolves rumors at that time proposed a player swap of Timberwolves backup center Naz Reid to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Nuggets backup point guard Bones Hyland to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The trade appears sound, as the Nuggets get a solid front-court player to rotate throughout the NBA Playoffs, and the Timberwolves add a young point guard to pair with Anthony Edwards, making D’Angelo Russell either out-and-out tradeable or a key sixth man for the Timberwolves to bring into the game off their bench.
Some rumors have been reported, and then faded away. But this is one of the Timberwolves’ rumors that simply will not go away. The Denver Nuggets need frontcourt help, and the Minnesota Timberwolves need to get backup center Luka Garza more minutes. Will this trade happen? It has traction . . .
Stay tuned.
