Timberwolves Trade Rumors: 3 team – DLo to Lakers, Conley to Wolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are down to the wire now, and the team is frantically searching for ways to upgrade the entire roster. The problem this season has been two-fold, and the Timberwolves’ record of 29-28 after 57 games have been played has forced the team to push their chips in, apparently in a last-ditch effort before the NBA Trade Deadline arrives at 2:00 pm CT on February 9, 2023. NBA Trade Rumors will be rapid in the next 24 hours.

In this latest Timberwolves Trade Rumors reported by The Athletics Sharms Charnia,  as well as Bleacher Report NBA Insider Chris Haynes,  are simultaneously reporting that the Minnesota Timberwolves, the LA Lakers, and the Utah Jazz are working on trade talks that would Timberwolves PG D’Angelo Russell to the LA Lakers, Mike Conley Jr. to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Russell Westbrook to the Utah Jazz where he will likely be bought out of his current contract.

In this scenario, the Jazz will take on the role of a salary dump, and the Lakers will likely be sending at least one, if not two, first-round picks to the Jazz to compensate for the opportunity to offload Westbrook.

What does this mean for the Timberwolves?

The Timberwolves have been looking for a true point guard to handle the load for this team, and PG Mike Conley’s name has been linked to the Timberwolves in the past. Don’t forget that Conley has three seasons of NBA experience playing with current Minnesota TImberwolves center Rudy Gobert.

While Conley is not nearly as proficient at scoring right now as D’Angelo Russell, he can run the floor easily, giving the Timberwolves an ideal setup to get Gobert more involved in the offense. And that will allow the team to return Kyle Anderson to the more traditional power-forward role that he is so very good at filling.

Best of all, Conley is cheaper and has another year on his current contract. That gives the Timberwolves some financial flexibility that the team is in need of right now.

What will the total package be for the Timberwolves if this deal goes through? Don’t get discouraged as the details are currently being hammered out. The Timberwolves could land 1-2 second-round picks in this deal, but we won’t know that until the deal is eventually hammered out.  This also does not rule out the Timberwolves dealing Taurean Prince to the Denver Nuggets either, as Bones Hyland would be an ideal padawan for Mike Conley Jr. going forward.
