5 buyout candidates to keep on radar for Timberwolves roster
By Bret Stuter
Option IV: Derrick Rose
Another option for the Minnesota Timberwolves at the point guard is seasoned veteran point guard Derrick Rose. Rose was a former Timberwolves player from 2017-2019, and he was certainly able to put up some respectable numbers for the team in his second season. But that was quite some time ago, and Rose has seen a bit of a drop-off in his production and availability of late.
So much so that the NY Knicks want to buy him out of his current contract.
While Rose has been regressing of late, scoring just 5.8 PPG so far this season, he is also fighting through injuries that have limited his availability. In fact, he has yet to play a single game in 2023.
Of course, whenever discussing Derrick Rose, medical flags become huge neon sign billboards that scream caution. And the reality of Rose’s buyout and inability to play any games since 2023 started is a significant concern. If he gets medical clearance and can play, he could be an intriguing option for the Timberwolves. But I’ll be honest, those are huge IFs, and that means he is unlikely to return to the Timberwolves this year.
