Option I: Patrick Beverley

There is an almost frenzied hope that the Minnesota Timberwolves will re-sign former guard Patrick Beverley, and at one point in time, that hope seemed to run in both the team and the player. But at this point, I’m not so sure that the reunion will take place. Now, don’t get me wrong, Beverley’s defense is good enough to attract interest from plenty of NBA teams.

So what does Patrick Beverley say is his next move? Despite the belief that Beverley has been gnawing at the bit to return to the Timberwolves, his options are plentiful, and the Minnesota Timberwolves may not even be among his Top-5 teams to play for to finish out the 2022-23 NBA season

The truth of the matter is that now Beverley is a free agent, and is playing in his 11th NBA season, he has to consider the likelihood of winning an NBA Championship soon if that is his ultimate goal. Right now, among NBA teams that are rumored to be in hot pursuit of Beverley, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ chances of delivering an NBA Championship this season seem rather remote.

I can’t say that I blame him for considering all of his options, and if there is a team that seems to be on the cusp of winning it all this season, he has every reason to pursue signing a deal with that team.  Just like the Minnesota Timberwolves cannot focus on one player, Beverley cannot focus on one team.

In the end, the Minnesota Timberwolves free agency search may not result in any signings.  But it’s vital to the team to leave no stone unturned. The Timberwolves are clinging to NBA Playoff hopes by their claws, and one timely signing could make all the difference in turning those hopes into reality.
