Minnesota Timberwolves nearly pulled off an NBA miracle
By Bret Stuter
Okay, Minnesota Timberwolves fans, what happened last night? The Minnesota Timberwolves were outgunned, and outmanned, but took a halftime lead on the heavily favored Los Angeles Lakers. At the end of the third quarter, the Timberwolves were still clinging to a seven-point lead. At the end of regulation play, the game was all tied up.
But the much deeper Lakers roster pulled out a victory on their home basketball court as the Timberwolves could muster only four points in an overtime period in a must-win-and-in scenario.
When it comes to the NBA Playoffs and the NBA Play-In Tournament, the better team does not always win. Luck plays a huge part in the outcome of a win-and-in contest. There is always the shroud of NBA officiating and how much of the NBA’s big-market bias will steer how much the NBA will lean in terms of calling fouls down the middle. But the biggest factors in any NBA contest come down to health and availability.
No chance? Beware the wounded Timberwolves
For Game 1 of the NBA Play-In Tournament, there were far too many who gave the Timberwolves team no chance. From NBA former players to NBA pundits and analysts to NBA fans down to even many actual Minnesota Timberwolves fans. But as we made very clear in our pregame writeup entitled 3 surefire events, 2 surprises that may happen in Wolves-Lakers Play-In match-up, the Timberwolves were being written off too easily and quickly.
Those types of scenarios often lead to a good day for the underdog. Or in this case, the Timberwolves. This team has dug itself into a hole far too often throughout the season, and yet has found the inspiration and resolve to come roaring back when you least expect it.
