The Minnesota Timberwolves go to the NBA Playoffs with the help of PG Patrick Beverley a year ago. That year, it was the seventh-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves attempting to upset the second-seeded Memphis Grizzlies. By Game 5 of that Round 1 series, the Timberwolves had tied the series 2-2 and had a significant lead on the Grizzlies.

By the end of the third quarter, the Timberwolves had amassed an 11-point lead, and it appeared that the Minnesota Timberwolves had enough juice to upset the Memphis Grizzlies. But the  Grizzlies had other things in mind, fueled by Ja Morant’s flurry of points scored after being taunted by Timberwolves PG Patrick Beverley for being too small, he scored the last 13 points for the Memphis Grizzlies to give them the lead, the win, and the Grizzlies never looked back.

In a recent episode of the Patrick Beverley podcast, Beverley laid into the Minnesota Timberwolves’ rash of pugilistic mistakes that had seemed to befall the team just as they were about to enter the NBA Play-In Tournament.

While there is another debate to be held as to whether It was Patrick Beverley who was the sole cause and effect of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ ability to earn an NBA Playoff berth one year ago, there is little debate that his firey passion and ability to act like a lightning rod took a lot of pressure off the young players on the Timberwolves roster throughout the 2021-22 NBA season.

That ability to divert attention away from the Timberwolves’ youth enabled the entire team to get into a rhythm of success that allowed the team to compete in the NBA Playoffs last year. But in a recent article by Will Eudy, it’s time for the Timberwolves to let go of last year’s team.

While this is a Timberwolves team that made some emotionally charged mistakes in the last game of the regular season, the Timberwolves roster is deep this year thanks to Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly. And since the punch thrown by Rudy Gobert at teammate Kyle Anderson, the Timberwolves have played pretty good basketball.

Ultimately, the Chicago Bulls and PG Patrick Beverley failed to defeat the Miami Heat and earn a berth in the NBA Playoffs. But the Minnesota Timberwolves are still playing basketball, and hope to well into the month of May 2023.
