Let’s QC some NBA head coaches

How about the quality of NBA coaches themselves? Perhaps the teams have simply been laden with incredible player talent, but have been held back by back by their head coaching? Well, not if you have any faith in the annual NBA Coach of the Year Award: It’s a who’s who of coach firings this year:

Ultimately, the key to winning in the NBA Playoffs is centered on continuity, commitment, and communication. As long as winning teams continue to throw away incredible head coaches like depleted BIC lighters, the few teams that continue to win will continue to win. The Golden State Warriors did not fire HC Steve Kerr after his team was shown the door in the NBA Playoffs.

The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence

Some Timberwolves fans will bite on other head coach options now. After all, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, right? But keep in mind that hiring a new head coach simply resets the timeline back to the start of the cycle in terms of building towards an NBA Championship.

If the Minnesota Timberwolves were to dabble in hiring a new head coach, that would not only derail everything up to now but would pivot the development of key young NBA stars like Jaden McDaniels and Anthony Edwards into a new and uncertain direction. NBA coaching is more than playoff records and even more than the wins and losses incurred over an 82-game season. It’s the growth, development, and progress of the entire roster.

So many fans cheer at the moment that their head coach is fired. But ponder this. It’s like being recycled in high school back from graduating senior to newly arrived freshman or sophomore. Sure, you get new teachers, but to do so, you just got sent back to square one.

While some fans may be impatient with the Minnesota Timberwolves’ slow progress to advancing further than Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs, keep this in mind. A new head coach may or may not be able to do more with the Timberwolves roster in terms of veteran deployment. But what of the younger portion of this Timberwolves roster that has grown so quickly and impressively under Finch’s watch? There is something to be said for exhibiting patience now and reaping a better harvest later.

Next. Every former Timberwolves player still in the NBA Playoffs. dark

The best things in life are worth waiting for. Let’s hope the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the passionate Timberwolves fans, have enough patience to find out.
