Get used to the fact that Minnesota Timberwolves’ soon-to-be free agent center Naz Reid will be the topic of NBA Rumors that cite him as a target or great fit for various teams in the league. The truth of the matter right now is that big is ‘in,’ as far as NBA executives are concerned, and that has nothing but good news for Naz Reid.
While Reid has been a backup center so far, he insists that his next role brings the opportunity to start as a center in the NBA. That’s a pretty lofty demand, as most NBA Playoff teams have secured their starting center on multi-year contracts.
Sun is rising over the Naz Reid rumors
That is not a problem apparently for the Phoenix Suns, who already have starting center Deandre Ayton on a multi-year deal through the 2025-26 NBA season. According to this recent report found in Yahoo Sports by Senior NBA Reporter Jake Fischer, the Phoenix Suns expressed a desire to acquire Naz Reid as recently as the 2022 NBA Trade Deadline:
"“Would Phoenix take Russell for Paul? The Suns held discussions with the Timberwolves regarding Russell prior to the trade deadline, sources told Yahoo Sports, before Minnesota found a new home for him with the Lakers. Phoenix also coveted Wolves center Naz Reid in trade talks, sources said.” – as per Yahoo Sports by Senior NBA Reporter Jake Fischer"
Did we have the Phoenix Suns on the list of suitors for Naz Reid before this?
Well if not before, most certainly now. And with the Phoenix Suns added to the list of suitors, will the price go up? Well, that is the expectation right now. After all, if the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves are already in the mix, and the Phoenix Suns are now entering the fray, one of the three teams will be willing to cut a $12 million per season check for him to sign with their team.
Business is picking up.
