The Memphis Grizzlies are likely not very excited about the imminent news due from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, but who can blame them? The NBA and NBAPA have been deliberating on the future of Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant. Now, with the latest announcement, it appears that a decision has been made and that when that decision has been announced, will headline NBA news stories for days to come.
Adam Silver on Ja Morant: “We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information. We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we’ve made the decision that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce that decision in the middle of this series.”

Any suspension that Ja Morant has already served was imposed by the team, as the video at this link reports. With such an ominous and foreboding term of announcing the NBA/NBPA decision on the future of one of the sport’s young stars, there are already those who believe that the announcement will involve a suspension of Ja Morant that starts with the first 41 games of the 2023-24 NBA season and works upwards from there.
Grueling news for Grizzlies
With the Sword of Diomedes hanging over the head of Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies are caught between a rock and a hard place. That is all very bad news for the Grizzlies.
Adam Silver says the NBA and Players Association has already decided on Ja Morant’s suspension, but said it would be unfair to announce it now during the NBA Finals.

Silver says expect Morant’s punishment to be announced shortly after the NBA Finals.

Just to recap, the Memphis Grizzlies were the runner-up to the NBA Champion Denver Nuggets in the NBA Western Division in the 2022-23 NBA season, finishing with a record of 51-31. And the leading scorer for the Grizzlies was PG Ja Morant. In fact, he led the team in scoring (26.2 PPG) and in assists (8.1 APG).
Any suspension imposed on Morant takes their best player off the basketball court and places him on ice.
