Breaking Down Troy Brown Jr. and Shake Milton’s Potential Impact
By Tim Garrison
More Milton Mania
When given a chance for an increased workload, Shake answered the call. In his career, he has started 45 games his career while putting up 15.3 PPG, 4.7 APG, 3.6 RPG. His most recent work has been even more impressive, putting up 20.3 PPG, 7.2 APG, and 4.8 RPG in his 11 starts this past season.
So while it may be hopeful to bank on a giant leap forward in 27-year-old Shake Milton, his numbers as a starter indicate he can take on more responsibility as he begins the next chapter of his career in Minnesota.
In addition to the scoring, Milton is a capable offensive initiator in basic sets and the pick and roll. While he’s getting others involved in the offense, Shake has proven he can take care of the ball. With a 2.67 assist-to-turnover ratio, turnovers are not an issue with Shake in command of the offense. He uses his shiftiness to probe into the lane offensively and has a great pocket pass ability to give cutting teammates wide-open looks.
Milton is an upgrade
While I would caution against labeling Shake as a good defender, he is more than capable of holding his own. With a 7-foot wingspan, he has outstanding length to disrupt opposing players and get into passing lanes. While the Timberwolves won’t be turning to him to be the primary point of attack defender, he’s a capable team defender who can hold his own in most match-ups.
Overall the Timberwolves are getting an upgraded Jaylen Nowell. A three-level scorer capable of initiating offense and taking care of the ball, while offering up resistance on the defensive end of the floor.
